NILANJAN GHOSH

Hello, I am Nilanjan Ghosh, currently working as the Chief Executive of a Fashion House, Business Development Head of an Event Management Company and Partner of a Confectionery Manufacturing Company.

Being in the topmost position in an organization my responsibility is infinite. It’s not fixed and includes anything and everything. Along with time experience has made me expert in different fields. However in a nut shell responsibilities include purchasing, supervising, production, accounts and inventory, Employee activities, visual merchandising, Development of Franchisee Networks, Media Planning and so on. In a word it is overall business development in different fields for my company. For the Event part it starts with concept formation, layout design, event marketing and finally the event management. From concept to applause I am involved.

I have completed Madhyamik from South Point High school with 1st Div (64%) and Higher Secondary from A J C Bose College with 2nd Div (57%). After completing my Graduation from IGNOU with Accountancy Hons. Securing 2nd Class (59%) I have done Post Graduate Diploma In Business Management from EIILM along with Post Graduate Diploma in Production Management from All India Council Of Management Studies, Chennai (Correspondence) securing 1st Class (67%).

To be very honest I do not find words to describe my experience at EIILM. Let me be very upfront. Being a student representative for my class at EIILM, I have witnessed ups, downs, rise and fall but experienced a strong team support. We worked in a strongly united team. So my experience in EIILM is unique in every aspect and I guess this space would fall short if I go on describing it vividly. All I would say is that as an individual all these have made me a lot more alert and experienced about life and all the credit goes to EIILM. Keep faith among yourselves and be a part of Team EIILM. Remember your institute exists because of you and at the same time you enhance for your institute only. I don’t know how readers would accept this, but instead of coining phrases I prefer to be open to truth. I won Best Student Award at the World HR Meet in Mumbai, 2003.

When I joined PGDBM course, I was already looking after my family business and after completion I opened up my own apparel company. So the first job opportunity didn’t really arise except my stint with Shoppers Stop, Kolkata during my Summer Training Programme in 2nd Semester.

I have been seriously associated with my family business right from my Higher Secondary days. I didn’t feel it necessary to put the number of years in writing because this has been a learning experience where I learnt the various facets of business gradually on the job. I don’t know from where to start counting in my learning curve.

From my busy schedule, I often take a break and relax by going out on holidays, reading out literature on fashion and sports. My father is businessman and my mother is housewife. My sister is working as Business Analyst in a corporate house.

My motto in life is to establish and develop my own brand and figure out in the list of successful retail chains in India.

You should accept life as it comes. There are only two sides of a coin. So the best time will come. Talent cannot be suppressed. Keep on working professionally. But remember only hard work does not bring success. Efforts need to be directed in the proper direction to bring in development. I never believe PGDBM to be such a course where one can be judged in proportion to marks obtained. Marks, Degree, Recognitions are important in life. But don’t be disheartened if you miss out an opportunity. When you step out in the real world it is not the marks but your application potential, market understanding and such other factors which matter. Marks are not the end of the world. Don’t run after it, instead get your basics strong because getting a job is easier rather than maintaining it. Enjoy life to its fullest and work harder. Wish you all the very best in life ahead.
