Ameliorating the lives of the underprivileged

EIILM has already started the journey with a situation analysis of the pavement dwellers in Kolkata. This was done by conducting a baseline survey among the pavement dwellers across the entire city to identify the particular needs for interventions.

Work capabilities:

The common work capabilities have been found to include primarily unskilled labour. However, skills such as paper bag manufacturing, auto and taxi repair, showroom sales, carpentry, driving etc. have also been found among these people. A few youths have also been found who have completed graduation with honours and even aspires to do an MBA if funds permitted.

Intention to undergo capacity enhancement training programmes:

While most people have expressed willingness to undergo some need-specific training to enhance their work skills, certain financial assistance is imperative to generate work opportunities for themselves.

Journey ahead

EIILM aspires to take a bold step towards fulfilling its dreams towards contributing to the cause of upliftment of the disadvantaged community, particularly the pavement dwellers. However, EIILM cannot reach its target alone. It wishes to march ahead with the support and encouragement of many such aspiring citizen groups and organizations. It calls everyone to join hands in this effort to be able to give back something to the society.
